Sheridan was an illustrator and poster designer who designed several well-known posters during World War I to help the American war effort. He was also a prolific illustrator, and is most highly regarded for his sports images. His work graced the covers of The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's Weekly, and The Ladys' Home Journal. For the November 1903 issue of Sunset, Sheridan illustrated a football story entitled, Celebrity Baldwin, by Edward Felton Wheaton, the heading to which reads, "As are the battles on the gridiron between Harvard and Yale or Princeton and Pennsylvania to eastern residents, so are the Thanksgiving Day struggles between the teams of the University of California and Stanford University to Californians. The state university's colors are blue and gold; Stanford's, cardinal." (Sunset, November 1903, p. 6). This poster has been trimmed of its title, the word "Sunset," which originally appeared at the top of the poster.
